Understanding South Africa PAYE
Use 2021 Rules: This calculator applies the tax rates, rebates, and medical credits effective for the 2021 tax year (1 Mar 2020 - 28 Feb 2021).
- PAYE: Calculated on your annualized taxable income using the sliding scale brackets (18% to 45%).
- Rebates: Deducted from tax payable. Everyone gets the Primary rebate. Seniors get additional Secondary/Tertiary rebates.
- Medical Credits: R319 (Main) and R319 (1st Dep) / R215 (Add. Dep) per month reduce your tax directly.
- UIF: 1% of gross income is deducted for the Unemployment Insurance Fund, capped at R148.72/month (based on R14,872 ceiling).
Disclaimer: This calculator provides estimates based on SARS 2021 tax year rates (1 Mar 2020 - 28 Feb 2021). Actual deductions may vary based on specific payroll settings, varying income, and other deductions. Consult with a registered tax practitioner or SARS for official advice.
